Water-Rich Foods That Will Keep You Hydrated

Not taking in enough water can lead to dehydration which in turn can cause fatigue, headaches, skin problems and low blood pressure to name a few side effects.

Experts recommend drinking 8 glasses of water per day to meet your hydration needs. While drinking water is extremely important, you can also get water from certain foods.

Below you will find a couple of healthy foods which can contribute a large amount of water to your diet.

 

Watermelon (water content: 92%) – Watermelon is extremely healthy and one of the most hydrating foods you can eat. 1 cup of watermelon contains over half a cup of water along with vitamin C, vitamin A and magnesium. Watermelon is also low in calories, providing only 46 calories per cup. You can add watermelon into your diet as a fresh snack or side dish, it is also commonly used as a component in salads.

 

Strawberries (water content: 91%) – Along with having a high water content, strawberries provide lots of fiber, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Eating strawberries on a regular basis can reduce inflammation which in turn will protect your body against heart disease and diabetes. It is easy to include them into your diet, you can either blend them in a smoothie, eat them as a snack or add them to a salad.

 

Cucumber (water content: 95%) – Cucumbers are almost entirely made up of water and also provide a small amount of nutrients such as vitamin K, potassium and magnesium. Cucumbers are one of the lowest water-rich foods in calories. They are easy to incorporate into your diet, cucumbers are usually added to salads and sandwiches or can be eaten alone as a snack.

 

Zucchini (water content: 94%) – Zucchini provides several health benefits and it is also extremely low in calories. Zucchini is loaded with vitamin C. Vitamin C is essential for a healthy immune system and helps protect your body against disease. You can add zucchini to salads, soups or you can even use it as an alternative to pasta.

 

Grapefruit (water content: 88%) – Grapefruit is an extremely healthy citrus fruit. It is rich in fiber, antioxidants and vitamins such as potassium. Grapefruit can help boost weight loss, as well as reduce cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar levels. You can eat grapefruit as a snack or blend it into a smoothie.

 

Cottage Cheese (water content: 80%) – Cottage cheese is another healthy and hydrating food. It is high in water and protein contents which is why it is a filling food which can help reduce your appetite. It is a great source of B vitamins which are necessary for brain health. Add cottage cheese to your diet as a spread, in salads or include it when making an omelette.

 

It is therefore important to know that it is key for your health to stay hydrated. While drinking water is important, we suggest that you also include these water-rich foods in your diet as this way you will not have a problem staying health and hydrated.

    I make sure I drink 750mls of warm water first thing in the morning as hard as it may be, but I try and it makes a huge difference especially bowel and skin. Winter is my weakness season it cramp my hard work. But I will keep on till I get there.

    I really have a problem when it comes to drinking plain water. I will always have to try add some fruits to make it taste better. I am happy to find out that I’ve been using the same fruits that are been mentioned here.

      I really have problem of drinking plain water 💧at times i vomit. So what i do is to add lemon or cucumber and mint leaves that’s when i can drink enough water.. apart from that i vomit. Thanks

    I just wish I could drink more water and this article is quiet helpful in the sense that am learning ways of encouraging myself in drinking more water. But funnily enough I drink more water in summer than winter.
