10 Things to Let into Your Life in Your 20s

No other time in your life is going to be quite like your twenties.

It’s that wonderful time right after your teenage years where you’re finally an adult and think you’ve got everything all figured out, until you get to the middle of your twenties and realize you’re still trying to get the hang of this thing.

It’s exciting, scary and fun all at the same time.

As someone who is getting on up there in her twenties, my advice to you is that if there’s nothing else that you do during this amazing period of your life, just make sure that you enjoy it.

You’ll probably never be this fresh-faced, eager and carefree as you are now. So while you’re still young, embrace as much as you can.

  1. Adventure. Go out and explore. Try new things. Learn something different. Experiment. Be spontaneous. Embrace your free spirit.
  2. Responsibility. As you get older, there are going to be more and more things that you will inevitably become responsible for. At times this can seem overwhelming but being an adult is really not as tedious as you may have pictured it being when you were a kid. Ask questions. Take notes. Learn as much as you can to ensure that you can have the future that you want for yourself and your family.
  3. Self-awareness. Don’t be blind to yourself. You are the one person that you are stuck with forever. Become friends with yourself. Be aware of yourself, the good and the bad. Acknowledge your limitations and your strengths. Seek to grow yourself and to blossom into your true self.
  4. Difficult times. Unfortunately, bad things will happen. You will cry, you will be angry and you will probably be broke. Use these times to make you stronger. There was a time in my early twenties when I was broke, it taught me how important it is to save money. Yes, the hard times are miserable when you’re in the thick of it, but I assure you if you can find the lesson and use it properly, you will be all the better for it later.
  5. Gratitude. A sense of gratitude is incredibly important. I guarantee you that it will force you to appreciate life and all of its wonders and gifts, big and small. It also boosts that sense of awareness that I was mentioning earlier. Practice a spirit of gratitude every day but taking a few moments to acknowledge the things that you are grateful for in your life for that day. They may not be there tomorrow.
  6. Love. Love, oh love, quite possibly the greatest gift in the world. Strive to love not only others but yourself as well. Be gentle, kind, and patient with yourself. Love and respect yourself. Honor your own spirit. There will be heartbreaks, this is for sure, but remember that love from others does not define you.
  7. Laughter. Aside being physically good for you, it’s good for your soul. There’s nothing like a laugh that is so deep it comes from your belly and makes your eyes water. Watch funny movies, check out some of the ridiculous memes out there, hang out with your friends and family and talk about some of the hilarious memories you have. Life doesn’t always have to be so serious.
  8. Selfishness. I know this may sound contrary to things that you should strive to incorporate into your life but trust me, it is not. This is the time where you are growing into the adult that you’re destined to be. Being selfish sometimes, in that you’re focusing on your dreams and aspirations okay. Telling people and opportunities “no” is not the end of the world. Sometimes you have to put yourself first.
  9. Quiet. Life is busy. There’s so much going on all of the time. You’re phone is always pinging at you with text messages, emails, phone calls and social media notifications. Remember that it’s okay to slow down. Take time for yourself to sit in the quiet and make observations about yourself and your life. Use it as a time to reflect and be in touch with yourself. Bask in the wonderfulness of this time in your life.
  10. Compassion. Never forget that the entire world doesn’t revolve around you. The world is full of millions of other people and we all need each other. Don’t forget to be a person who cares for others. Incorporate a spirit of mercy into your life. You reap what you sow.

I let in God into my life in my twenties and I’ve never experienced this kind of peace that comes with the love of God. Through the difficulties and trials and delays, its God’s love and peace that has helped me to stay strong and persevere through it all.
