January is Veganuary. Will you ditch meat this month?

January is Veganuary. Will you ditch meat this month?

Happy New Year rubies, here’s to 2023 (2020 me!!) being the best year yet!

We thought to kickstart it with a little challenge for you all. With all the New Year’s resolutions top of mind why not add being vegan for a whole 31 days in January?

Not convinced well believe it or not there are plenty benefits to ditching animal-based products for a month like bloating, clearer skin and higher energy levels to name a few. Last year Netflix was awash with documentaries on veganism, the meat industry and what our meat consumption is doing to the climate and we know everyone loves a challenge to start the year off with a bang. Veganuary could be the answer, it would definitely help with your weight loss journey too! Killing two birds with one stone, sounds like a good plan to us.

So, what is a vegan, exactly?

For those of you who are unsure being vegan means not eating any animal products. No meat, poultry, fish, dairy, eggs, honey or other bee products. Vegans also do not wear leather, wool, silk or any products that contain animal-derived ingredients or tested on animals.

If being vegan sounds way too overwhelming try focusing on being plant-based. With a plant-based diet you do not necessarily eliminate animal products, but focus on eating mostly plants, such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and whole grains. Plant-based diets also emphasise whole foods, meaning the food has undergone little – if any- processing and is as close to its natural state as possible.

Just remember its only for 31 days and it could be something your body needs to claim that lost bit of energy again. First things first we recommend stocking up on veg and doing some research. By getting inspired you are more likely to take the plunge – remember knowledge is power. Start experimenting with food and find out which local restaurants cater to plant-based and vegan diets you’ll be surprised by how many there are out there.
