February has long been celebrated as the month of love. Hearts, chocolates, and romantic gestures fill our timelines and shopping aisles, reminding us to cherish those closest to us. But what if, this year, we stretched the definition of love beyond just those in our immediate circle? What if February became the month of Love Thy Neighbor?
Love thy neighbor. A simple yet profound command. It asks for more than just warm feelings—it calls for action. It demands that we see, acknowledge, and uplift those around us. In a world that can feel increasingly divided, this kind of love is both radical and necessary.
For the past few months, we’ve explored the power of serving, the joy of giving, and the unexpected rewards of stepping outside ourselves. We’ve seen how volunteering shifts not only communities but also our own hearts. The dopamine effect of helping others is real—it rewires us, reenergizes us, and reminds us that we are part of something bigger.
So, as we step into February, let’s lean into love in its fullest sense. Love as an everyday practice, love as kindness, love as advocacy, love as standing in the gap for someone else.
- Love is buying extra groceries for a struggling family.
- Love is making time for a lonely neighbor.
- Love is choosing grace over gossip.
- Love is giving without expecting anything in return.
- Love is seeing people—truly seeing them—and responding with action.
Some of you have asked why I started writing these articles. The answer is simple: I believe in the power of community. I believe in women who rise, who build, who heal, who nurture, and who hold space for others. And I believe that when we love our neighbors well, we change the atmosphere—not just in our homes, but in our streets, our schools, our workplaces, and beyond.
This is my last article in this series, but the work continues. You are the heart of this movement. So, go forward and love boldly, serve joyfully, and remember—every small act of kindness plants a seed of change.
Powerfully yours,
Zimbini

Love this article it reminds me of our churches motto for 2025 “ITS TIME TO DO GOOD”
Growing up in Soweto has made us appreciate our neighbours. Ubuntu, Botho is what we have always practised as our neighbours have become extended family. When not around, the first contact of reference is always neighbours. So I love my neighbours. So from time to time a little appreciate in a form of chocolate can go a long way.
