Trick or Treat? Removing your Halloween make-up doesn’t have to be tricky.
31st of October is Halloween, and becoming someone else for a night can be a lot of fun – BUT it can take a lot of make-up and hairspray to accomplish. In this week’s Tip Tuesday we show you the easiest way to remove ’Halloween’ once the party is over.
(Be sure to look out for our ‘Spook-Tacular Beauty Blogger Tutorials’ this Friday. We will be showing you easy, moderate & pro ‘how to videos’ for ‘Fang-Tastic’ looks, no matter where you’re celebrating Halloween this year!)
1.Certain types of make-up will leave some colour on your skin even after you remove them. Make a paste with baking soda and water to remove this stained pigment. While it’s usually pretty effective, baking soda can make your skin extremely dry, so be sure to do a small patch test first and moisturise once done. If you need to remove stains from a large area of skin, toothpaste is a milder alternative that won’t irritate your skin. Just apply it to the stain and scrub lightly until it comes off, then rinse with cool water.
2.Stains on your clothing. Try soaking them in warm water for a few hours before washing to soften the stain, especially for thicker products like fake blood. For oil-based stains, sprinkle on some baby powder to absorb the oil before washing.
3.Create ‘stay put’ make-up. When it comes to applying heavy Halloween make-up and fake blood that lasts all night, be sure to skip your usual moisturiser and not apply before the make-up. You want your skin to be as dry as possible. The more moisture your skin has to it, the harder it is for your makeup to stay put.
4.How to make glitter and sparkles last all night? Use your fingertip to dab some hairspray on the skin, followed by a gentle shake off loose glitter. For sparkling eyelids and lips, layer glitter on top of cream shadows and lip gloss, so the glitter has something to stick to.
5.Removing body make-up. The trick to removing it all at the end of the night is to jump in the shower with the big bottle of baby oil. No baby oil handy? No worries. Alternatively, you can use Vaseline. Apply and wipe away immediately before getting into the shower, no wait time!
6.Hair dye/spray on clothing. For bleach-safe fabrics, soak the item in a mixture of ¼ cup bleach to a litre of cold water. After 30 minutes, rinse and wash. For other fabrics, replace the bleach with a cup of ammonia. Stretch the stained area over a bucket and pour the solution over it, then rinse and wash.
