We can’t ignore that the clothing and textile industry is the second largest polluter in the world!

But, with this in mind South Africans have really bucked up and started supporting local designer brands that actually give a damn about the environment. These niche brands range from making their garments purely out of recyclable materials to those using local manufacturing.

Of course, we still want to look fabulous while being our eco-friendly selves. We are so lucky to have South African brands coming to the rescue by producing breath-taking stylish eco-friendly wardrobe items.

Have a scroll down to check out the local brands.

Me&B

This Cape Town, based clothing brand Me&B is a mother-daughter duo. Their brand promises chic, high quality garments that are a perfect combination of trendy and classic and to top it off these items are all made in SA. Some of their key pieces include jackets, dresses, jumpsuits and netted bags.

Akina

This online brand is the perfect match for swimwear, that focuses on being timeless and eco-friendly – can you get any better? The materials used are sustainably sourced, and they recycle 60% of their factory waste and donate any leftover scraps. Another way they stand out is the fact that they pay careful attention to the fit of their bikinis – we all know how important that can be! Keep your eyes peeled for their newest launch of dresses and pyjama sets. We can’t wait either!

Hemp Love

Hemp Love is a female based brand, that focuses on luxury single items made using sustainable fibres with plastic-free packaging. All the clothing dyes are naturally made from plant pigments replacing the synthetic dyes that are commonly used. Looking for a statement piece, this brand is definitely the place to find it.

Float Apparel

The Float Apparel brand is the definition of the chilled Cape Tonian life-style. What they make – locally made tees, crew neck sweaters and linen playsuits all made with 100% cotton and printed with organic ink. All these items are produced in the Mother City and are made in limited numbers so each piece is relatively unique. Theres no better brand to embrace the Cape Town style then this one.

Earthling & Moon

Earthling & Moon is a locally produced brand inspired by the spirit of nature and the power of the moon. Their swimwear is made from regenerated ocean waste and plastic-free and reusable packaging. This brand offers a range of locally crafted clothing, swimwear and accessories.
