Beauty Trends According To Men

Ever wondered what your man really thinks of the current tangerine lip trend you’re rocking every other day, the Khalesi-inspired plaits and those stick-on nails a la Kim K? We’ve got the lowdown. Excuse us for a few minutes while we put our man faces on.

The cat’s eye
“If it’s done subtly, it doesn’t even register to me. I just think ‘what great eyes’ but that’s all I notice.” Brennan, 27

Now that you’ve got the nod of approval (not like we need it) line those lids with dark liner. Our favourite for a beautifully precise cats eye try Rimmel Waterproof Gel Eyeliner in Black.

The cat’s eye is easily achieved by placing your liner at the middle of you upper lid, and begin drawing a line as close to your lashes as possible. Then, starting from the inner corner of your eye and moving towards the line you just drew, draw a fine line. To create your eyeliner wing, draw a line starting from the last lash outwards. You can now decide the length and angle to your eye liner. After drawing your wing, draw a line back to your upper lash line. This should create an empty triangle on your upper lid. Colour in the triangle with your pencil and voila!

The Pixie
“Seeing a girl with hair like this makes me want to say hello – hair like this makes even the most stunning girl seem approachable.” Kurt, 30

Who knew? Rock your pixie cut proudly and keep it tame and shiny with Marc Anthony Argan Oil Volume Shine Hair Spray.

Dramatic lashes
“I find this look very disconcerting and fake. I’m all for accentuating the eyes but its hard to not see this as an attempt to turn women into dolls.” Jarred, 32

A classic example of guy pretty versus girl pretty. Our automatic response to this – ‘what do they know’. If you agree and prefer the all natural opt for a lash extending mascara like Divaderme Lash Extender Lashes In A Bottle or curl your lashes and load up on blacker-than-black mascara. For everyone else go wild with Eylure Ready To Wear Lashes.

Dark nail polish
“I can say from a lot of experience and with a great deal of confidence, that I do not notice nails, I’m sorry. I’ll check out almost every other part of a woman’s appearance before I even think to look at them.” Jacques, 29

Feeling fierce, go dark. Super girly? Pale Pink. Either way, you don’t need anyone’s permission. Just be sure to prep those nails with base coat and finish off with a top coat like Mavala Colorfix Strong Flexible Top Coat if you want your mani to last and last.

Ballerina buns
“It looks like a golf ball over the head of which no purpose has been decided yet. The tight hair pulled back looks like the woman is in severe pain and almost gives the same image as of a bald woman.” Logan, 30

We tend to agree, stiff polished updos have been replaced with soft, wispy top knots. Once your hair is all swept up, load up on Marc Anthony Argan Oil Volume Shine Spray, to keep it looking healthy and touchably soft.

Bold, red lipstick
“Red lips always remind me of what grown ups looked like when I was a kid (in a good way). It conjures up jazz music, French wine and late nights. I do worry that you’re going to get it on me though.” Grant, 28

Pucker up with your favourite red lippie for just about every occasion. We adore Bourjois Rouge Edition Lipstick in Jet Set – just be sure to dab on some lip balm if you’re going with a matte look. If you’re planning a late night, try Stila Crush Lip & Cheek Stain in Acai.

Sleek & straight locks
“I’ve seen these irons at my girlfriends place, I don’t really know what they do or how they work. But I gather they’re very hot. And that using them takes a very long time. And that I should just try not to think about how scary it is that women do the same thing to their hair that I do to my pants.” Ruan, 30

Some of us can’t live without our flat irons, if that’s you always remember to apply a leave in conditioner like the Wella Pro Series Colour Leave In Balm  prior to straightening your locks. And don’t forget to apply a heat spray – we love TRESemme Heat Defense Styling Spray.
