Curious About Keto ?

The low carb diet that keeps on coming back.

The way keto works is that your body launches itself into ketosis, which is a metabolic state in which your body is forced to burn fat instead of carbohydrates. To achieve ketosis, you have to starve your cells of carbs so that they breakdown fats into molecules called ketones.

Unlike the paleo diet, which calls for more protein carbs, the keto diet focuses on healthy fats such as avocado, olive oil and fish and only 10% should consist of carbs and lean protein. While non-starchy veggies and some cheeses contain traces of carbs they are keto friendly. Along with oils, eggs, seafood, poultry and red meat these foods carry little to no traces of carbs in them.

But fruits on the other hand are restricted as they carry a lot of carbs, as does booze. Both alcohol and fruits prevent the liver from using fat as energy. Making chips and sweets even more of a no go. If you crave on the keto diet it can set you back three days.

Benefits of the Keto diet –

  • Munching on only a few carbs means that your insulin levels should be steady
  • An increase in focus due to a decrease in sugar intake
  • Aides people with diabetes, cancers and polycystic ovary syndrome
  • Fat is reduced without breaking down any muscle

Downside of the Keto diet –

  • A drop in insulin could lead to dehydration
  • Dehydration could lead to flu
  • Your breathe might smell
  • Constipation due to a lack of fibre
  • Kidney stones may develop due to a lack of carbs

I’m still on it even now and it’s working out just perfect for me since I’ve been diagnosed with Acid reflux(Gerd). I’m not planning on changing my diet ever again.
