Catch Up With Marlinette

This month’s Tip Tuesday is a special Beauty Expert edition. We caught up with professional make-up artist and hairstylist, Marlinette Newton, to ask her ten beauty questions.

What is your top fearless make-up trick?
For instant glam pop on a Red lipstick!

What is the one thing every ruby should have in their make-up bag?
Mascara. It opens the eyes and finishes off any make-up look.

What is your biggest tip to achieving a fearless smokey eye?
Use a cream product instead of powder. It is easier to control and blend, avoiding panda-eyes.

What will be the next big trend for the summer?
Natural! glowing skin, luminous highlights and nude make-up with hints of gold metallics on the eyes.

Tell us a little about your experience in the make-up world?
Everyday is different, and that makes me love my job even more. Some days I am working on a fashion shoot with a model and other days I work with everyday women with amazing inspirational stories. On another day I am making a bride beautiful, or a man look like a dirty rugby player. I see my work as creating characters! And that is the beauty of make-up and hair, it can be used to transform a character, or to enhance the beauty of the person infront of you.

When applying bold fierce bright lipstick, any tricks to making it last all day?

What makes a woman beautiful in your opinion?
A women with integrity, confidence, humility, kindness, love and respect for others, at all times.

What are your tricks to covering a cold sore?
I wouldn’t recommend trying to cover a cold sore if it is not partially healed or scabbed over. It’s hard to conceal a cold sore when it has blistered and is still weeping. I would also recommend ONLY concealing a cold sore if it is an emergency (job interview etc)

TO CONCEAL A COLD SORE: Use a liquid concealer, not a cream, as this will blend easier and be gentle on the skin! I personally find using a fluffy brush helps to gently apply the product, spread it over the area, and softly blend it in. If the cold sore is on your lip try using a bright red or pink lipstick, this will help blend it into the lip and make it less visible. Cold sores are contagious so be sure to properly sanitize the brush, concealer and lipstick with some Isopropyl alcohol.

What’s your favorite spring product?
A liquid or cream highlighter applied to the middle of the eyelids, brow bone, inner corner of the eyes, cheek bones, cupids bow of the lip, bridge of the nose, decollete and the shoulder bones for a soft, healthy luminous glow.

Finally – What is something fearless you have done in your life?
Leaving a salary paid job to go free-lance. I didn’t have enough clients to keep me going, and I didn’t have an agency to promote me, but I was so fed-up with my job. The only thing that kept me from leaving and going on my own was FEAR! After a month of intense prayer, I decided to chose FAITH instead of FEAR. And here I am, 8 years later working as a full-time free-lance make-up artist and hairstylist with not one month gone by where I got financially stuck. I truly praise God for this as this would not have been possible without His provision.
