7 Ways To Reduce Waste In Your Home

The idea of reducing waste in one’s life and home can seem like an overwhelming task, but rest assured it’s much simpler than you think! Here are 7 ways to reduce waste in your home that are simple changes you can make:

1. Get to know the rules of recycling

Even though reusable packaging is suggested, it is good to have a recycling system in your home. Try to do some research on the recycling symbols that are on the packaging items. Keep a note on your phone that you can revert back to what the symbols mean – before you know it, you will know it all offhand!

2. Ditch the plastic bags

Use your own shopping bags! This is one of the simplest ways to reduce waste and to do your part in saving the planet. Keep some cloth/ reusable bags in the trunk of your car or close to your front door, so you can just grab them when heading out.

3. Make a meal plan

Planning your meals weekly/ monthly and try to shop for food you know you will eat, so you don’t have to throw away unnecessary amounts of food that went off.

4. Start relying on reusable containers

Storing food in proper containers will help them last longer. Glass containers are great investments and can be reused for any food storing!

5. Start composting

Instead of throwing away fruit/ veg/ other food scraps – try composting it! Those scraps are full of nutrients and are amazing for your garden. No food will go to waste, you will have a stunning healthy garden and you are helping to save the planet – how awesome is THAT?

6. Learn to repair rather than discard

It’s easy when something broke to just throw it away and buy a new one. Next time, when something in your household has stopped working, spend a few minutes to see if it’s fixable, rather than throwing it away and ordering a new one.

7. STOP buying plastic water bottles

Who doesn’t love a good cup of coffee at their favorite coffee spot in the morning before starting our busy day, OR pop into the shop and buy a bottle of water to keep us hydrated during the day? Unfortunately, these water bottles and paper coffee cups are HUGE wastes of material. Try rather investing in a durable water bottle and a travel coffee cup – there are so many cute designs out there!
