Skin care is not a one-size-fits-all situation, in fact it is the complete opposite. We all have different skin types which carry an array of concerns such as eczema or oily skin.
Below are a few skin care myths we believe keep many people from having a great relationship with their skin.
Skin Care Myth #1: Is toner necessary ?
Yes a toner removes excess dirt and oil off the skin before applying moisturiser. But toners often promise to help your skin look brighter and smoother. However we do believe for these reasons a toner certainly assists in your beauty routine, but not everybody needs it.
Too many products can cause build up or even a lack of absorption.
If you do use a toner, we suggest you look it up in order to see if it aligns with the rest of the products in your beauty routine.
Skin Care Myth #2: Makeup wipes are essential when if comes to removing makeup
If you are prone to hyper-pigmentation, it is known that makeup wipes cause friction and slowly tear at the skin is used daily. Also the majority of makeup wipes contain alcohol, which may cause stinging for sensitive skin.
If you do choose to use makeup wipes, try to limit them for removing makeup off after a long night out.
Skin Care Myth #3: Eating chocolate or oily foods cause acne
There is no evidence that any specific food causes acne or oily skin. But there is an oily substance called sebum that is produced by oil glands in our bodies which causes acne.
Skin Care Myth #4: You can skip the sunscreen if it’s not sunny out
If you thought SPF was only necessary on days when you are laying on the beach, well we have got some news for you. You should be wearing a broad spectrum SPF everyday, this should be your last step in your skin care routine before applying makeup.
Skin Care Myth #5: Steam from hot water opens up your pores
The idea that your pores open and close based on water temperature is just not true. Your pores are technically always open! Steam is beneficial to your skin in many ways such as increasing moisture levels in the air to prevent dry, cracked lips but so-called opening up of your pores is not one of them.
From learning about how makeup wipes are actually an inconvenience to why steam does not open your pores.
We hope you learned something new. Let us know if you have any skin myths you would like to share.
