Silence Your Inner Critic

A little self-criticism is not always a bad thing, it can often be a reality check which spurs you to be a better person.

But there is a vast difference between “I need to workout more” and “I am fat.” Excessive self-criticism tends to backfire and it leads us to focus on our so-called failures instead of focusing on small things we can improve.

Take a look at a couple of ways that will help you silence your inner critic..

Put Negative Thoughts In A Box – The next time a negative thought enters your mind, take a few deep breaths and think rationally. For example instead of calling yourself an idiot rather say “I could of gone about that differently.”

The Power of Possible Thinking – This is the thought process where by you reach for neutral thoughts when it comes to a negative outlook. For example instead of calling yourself fat rather say “i’d like to lose 5kg.I know how to do it.” This gives you a lot more to work with as well as it provides you with a direction to lose the weight.

Ask Yourself What Would My Best Friend Say – A quick way to silence nasty self-talk is to think of someone you trust and imagine what they would say about you. Another rule to live by, is if you wouldn’t say something to your friend, don’t say it to yourself.

Embrace Your Imperfections – It is extremely refreshing to stop holding yourself to insanely high standards. Perfection is actually destructive, so relax your standards just a little.

Build self-confidence – Self-confidence is an important element when it comes to mental health. Self-confidence is the belief in your skills and abilities. You can build your self-confidence by trying new things. The more you, the more competent you become and therefore the more confident you will become. You will find that self-confidence is actually often the cure for many negative thoughts we have about ourselves.

So there you have it rubies. Apply these tips every time you catch yourself feeling negative about yourself.
