[April Newsletter] A month filled with flashbacks 📸

APRIL NEWSLETTER

Two years ago to this very day our president announced that we would be going into a hard lockdown. We all naively believed it would be all over in a matter of weeks and oh boy were we wrong.

Offices and hospitality industry closed and healthcare professionals prepared themselves for an influx of new Coronavirus patients. No matter your profession, life as we knew it had changed forever.

Friday nights once spent at the bar were spent in a bath, Saturday bottomless mimosa brunches were replaced with games with the family in the garden, and we swapped our hopes and far-flung destinations with more modest staycations.

If you think about it even after lockdown measures were removed we’re still conscious of crowds, wearing masks and dousing our hands with sanitiser. There’s no doubt it’s been a painful and challenging time in many respects, it has however prompted a global shift in priorities which could serve us in the long run.

Here are just some of the ways the pandemic has changed the way we live and work:

We take illnesses more seriously 👀

Before the pandemic, sick days were far and few between. We would rather suffer through our sniffles at our desks, determined to get our work done while infecting our entire office space in the process.

Fast forward to today and any slight illness warrants isolation, yes we don’t need to take such extreme measures in the future but it is worth continuing this newfound respect for our health.

We are re-evaluating the commute 🚙

Being able to work from home changed the game for many, ditching the morning rush which would often include unpleasant and lengthy commutes not only lessoned expenses but also improved productivity and mental health.

We are rediscovering our health 🤸🏼‍♀️🚶🏽‍♀️

Thanks to lockdown our hour of daily exercise was the only excuse to get out the house or maintain sane. So many took up jogging and walking during that time stating that it helped with mental health.

It’s safe to say this habit has stayed and people are more active and moving more.

We remembered we have communities 🙋🏽‍♀️

Before the pandemic we were all so self-absorbed in our own little world but with physical limitations on movement and emphasis on looking out for each other and supporting local businesses. The resurgence in community spirit is back and it’s benefiting out mental health as well.

The pandemic was an opener and also a time to self introspect and possibly better one self. It was also an opportunity to appreciate life and be grateful. I’ve definitely learnt how to do things differently and appreciate things that I previously took for granted.

    Profile Updated
Well the pandemic really took a toll on most of us to me it was extremely stressful because not only did my husband lose his job but also pushed my anxiety to a extremely high level.
It also had some positive effects like it brought family much closer an helped you appreciate all the little things in life.

My profile is up to date.
The changes I made was a healthy lifestyle one and being a stay at home mom. Prior to lockdown, exercising was not a high priority for me. Now I exercise 6 days a week and love every heart pumpiny minute of it.
Being a stay at home mom, has given me more time with my children and now we do more things together.

A good thing that came out of the pandemic I actually got to know my three boys more, there likes, dislikes and what makes them happy and unhappy. I realised what is more important than money and why we work for it. This pandemic we were all sick and got very health conscious about our diet. So it had more cons than pros. I am also happy for all the new things I’ve learnt from rubybox and the products I only got to test a bidywash before but it makes you actually purchase it again. 😊🙂

Boy were we wrong about it only being 2 weeks, lol! 🙊 I agree that we take hygiene seriously now, that is one thing I can get behind, but I am glad the restrictions are loosening up and hopefully they’ll be gone altogether so we can see each other smile again! A pinch and a punch for the first of the month to you too! 🤣

  8. Melanie P. says:

It made me realize that there’s so much I can do remotely and that I don’t necessarily have to go outside. I’ve also saved so much money because it was easier to not have unnecessary social obligations. It made me appreciate my loved ones more as I got to spend more time with them. I needed to slow down, in general and I’ve always struggled with that but the lock down rest was just what I needed. I have a new lease on life as I was able to rediscover my passions and it helped a lot with my mental health as well.
