Why Does The Scent of Perfume Change

Did you know?

Perfume smells different on everyone, that is why it is so important to try before you buy.

A perfume could smell wonderful on a friend but could wreak on you. So have you ever wondered why the fragrance you love so much doesn’t seem to love you back?

Well we have the answer for you. The reason for a perfume scent to smell different on everyone is that the pH balance in our skin differs slightly, which can change the way a scent smells.

Scent can also be affected by your diet as well as by hormones. When oestrogen levels drop, you may find you overheat and sweat a tad more than usual and this will in turn, affect your perfumes scent.

It is known that if you have a normal skin type, you are likely to find that most perfumes will smell true on you skin, but that doesn’t mean you can rule out the effect that fluctuating hormones and diet may still have on the scent.

Take a scroll to find our how oily and dry skin types can change your perfumes smell.

Oily Skin

Studies show that most perfumes are made with ingredients that are attracted to oil. Oily skin holds top notes for longer but can also exaggerate certain elements in perfume.

A general rule when it comes to oily skin is that oily skin makes fragrances pop. However you have to be careful as certain elements react strongly to oily skin causing the scent to be over powering. When selecting a fragrance opt for a perfume that has notes of fruits, especially citrus as this will not only pop but last longer on those with oily skin.

Dry Skin

Dry skin requires stronger scents in order to last throughout the day. Delicate scents will disappear therefore in order to make a statement opt for a scent which is made up of orientals and spices.

If you want to make fragrances last longer on dry skin, make sure that your skin is thoroughly moisturised with a scent-free lotion or oil before spritzing your perfume.
