Find out all the ins and outs when it comes to a post bikini wax.
The Best After Waxing Care Tips:
Stay out of the sun – For at least 48 hours after your wax, stay out of the sun. Even though you are most probably dying to throw on your bikini we suggest you do not, your skin is known to be even more sensitive post wax. Sensitive skin is more susceptible to UV rays which means diving straight into the sun can lead to permanent sun damage and/or hyper pigmentation.
Avoid swimming – This includes taking a dip in an indoor pool also do not go near large bodies or water such as lakes or rivers as these often contain bacteria. If you do not follow through with this tip you could risk getting a horrible infection, and no one wants that!
Do not over exfoliate – Waxing is known to remove the topmost layer of dead skin while removing our hair. Therefore if we incorporate any additional scrubbing this can lead to skin damage. However, after a couple of days we advise you to exfoliate as it is important to remove dead skin cells in order to prevent ingrown hairs.
Avoid hot yoga and the sauna – Steam allows for pores to open. Bacteria also thrives in warm and wet places. For these reasons stay away from anything steaming for a couple of days.
To spray tan or not – We suggest you hold your spray tan appointment off and reschedule for a later stage. The chemicals may irritate your skin and the colour often will look uneven between waxed and unwaxed areas.
Be selective – When it comes to skin care products we advise you to be picky. Opt for gentle, fragrance-free body products. Avoid any products with artificial fragrances and colours added as these ingredients will irritate your skin.
Take a shower – Instead of soaking in a warm bath, take a shower. This is a lot more hygienic than laying in bath water for your open hair follicles.
Sorry, no getting it on – This is pretty straight forward, especially when it comes to sex. This will lead to much discomfort. Having sex after a bikini wax can cause excessive chaffing from the friction created from skin on skin.
Take it slow – Avoid intense workouts. Activities such as running and cycling can cause friction in treated areas, while sweating can lead to irritation. So consider this a non guilty rest day.
