So, rubies, let’s talk tattoos. Have you got one? If not, do you want one? And if you want one what and where would you get one? These are often just a few of the questions that come to mind when the subject of tattoos comes up. Oh, and let’s not forget those judgmental stares from friends and family members if you ever had to mention that you do indeed have one.
Getting a tattoo has become very mainstream and almost fashion-focused in this day and age. Gone are the days that tattoos were considered rebellious and badass. Because now, you are guaranteed to know at least a handful of people that have a tattoo. With the thousands of people getting inked each day it’s become more of a way of expressing yourself and experiences through the use of art on your body.
NOTE TO SELF BEFORE GETTING A TATTOO
For those first-timers reading this let’s not forget tattoos are a huge commitment and this decision shouldn’t be made lightly – to help you through the decision-making process we have come up with a few tips that you need to remember when getting your first tattoo.
- Remember it’s permanent so take your time when deciding on the design and placement of your tattoo
- Do some research on the different tattoo parlors out there
- Smaller is always better
- It’s really not sure – the worst pain would be your foot or fingers
- Always ask yourself am I still going to love it in 40 years’ time?
- Always follow your tattoo artist’s advice
- Avoid direct sunlight
- Look after your tattoo – it’s on your body forever

TATTOO INSPO
Small delicate tattoo designs are particularly popular with some of the most popular designs being of suns, arrows, feathers, infinity signs, flower designs, and of the moon. When it comes to placement these are the most common areas your wrists, ankles, behind your ear, on your foot, or on your arms.
TATTOO FAILS
Let’s not forget those tattoo fails – you know those tattoo designs you think will be cool forever like a tribal symbol or dolphin or to make it that much worse your ex’s name #cringe
Cheryl Cole‘s tattoo of roses is next level commitment – who knew anyone could love roses that much!
Justin Bieber is known for having a body covered in tattoos but some of them just do not make any sense like this one – who has hands coming out of their feet? ANYONE?!
Who can forget Miley Cyrus and her love for inking almost anything she loves onto her body – she MUST really love Vegemite.

I absolutely LOVE my ink! I have a big piece on the right side of my body. Starts from my thigh all the way up to my ribs.
It’s a beautiful work of Art and I couldn’t be happier! 😍
I have a tattoo with a special message on.I love it and will love it still in 40 years time☺️❤️.
After going band forth with friend of mine around 2007, I decided to quietly go for a tattoo at an established place in Durban on Florida Road. I had no idea what I wanted so after they showed me a couple of designs, I opted for a tribal sign on my lower back. It was cool then and now, in my early 40’s it still looks pretty cool. I hardly ever show it though because I’m not comfortable showing parts of my body loosely. And yes, I’ve been tempted to get another one, but on my foot this time. Look, people will always quote the scripture and make you feel bad about it, but for me, it’s art. That’s all. The only thing I would never ever tattoo on my body would be a partner’s name. I’d probably ink my 2 boys’ names though.
I have asked myself so many times, should I shouldn’t I, what happens when I’m 50 with a tattoo lol but I still would like a small sexy one somewhere in my body, this year has to be the year, thank you for the information
I love my tattoos, each one tells a story of my life. I’ve got 65 currently
I have no tattoos at all but I would really love to get one, its just taking forever because I’m scared of the pain. So once I’ve gained all the courage I will definitely get one.

I have 4 tattoos already and I don’t regret any of them, even planning on completing my sleeve before the year ends🙂
I want to get my 3rd tattoo, but I haven’t decided where exactly, it’s been a 3 years decidin because it’s a permanent decision, taking my time. lol
