How To Fake That Holiday Glow

Fake tan is our favourite way to fake that holiday glow, without having to layout in the sun for hours on end.

Not only is tanning time consuming but extremely bad for ones skin. Over exposure to the sun can lead to skin conditions such as skin cancer, early ageing and the appearance of sun spots.

So why not take a look at these tips to getting that fake tan glow..

Remove hair & exfoliate –

Whether you wax or shave, it is always important that you are silky smooth before you tan. Once your legs are smoothed you are to exfoliate, do not exfoliate in the shower as this will leave behind residue rather exfoliate after the shower. This will create the smoothest possible surface for you to apply your tan.

Moisturise dry areas before application –

It is vital that you moisturise otherwise you will end up areas that are two shades darker than the rest of your skin. We recommend that you focus on the following areas when moisturising: elbows, knees, knuckles, fingers, inner wrists, ankles and toes. We find that a tan primer works best, as it acts as a barrier to stop the tan from catching.

Use a tanning mitt –

A mitt products the fake tan from absorbing into your hands as well as helps evenly distribute the product.

Don’t forget your face –

Whether you decide to tan your face or not, you can’t forget it all together. If you do decide to tan your face always ensure that you apply a coat less than what you would to your body. However if you do not want to tan your face, you may want to switch your shade of foundation to match your tanned body, making sure you blend your neck for a seamless transition.

Wear loose clothing while it dries –

Wearing anything tight or restrictive post tan is a big no, as this will cause the tan to rub off and smudge. We suggest that if you are at home you wear loose-fitting pjs and we suggest that you always opt for black.

Don’t shave or wash post tan –

This is why it is important to shave pre tan, if you shave post tan you are at risk of shaving away your tan as the blades tend to pick up dead skin cells as well as hair. Also we advise that you avoid baths, bathing will soak away your golden glow therefore opt for showers.

Only begin to moisturise one day post tan –

If you want to maintain your gorgeous glow we suggest your moisturise to avoid it fading. Start moisturising twice daily once your tan has settled and is no longer at risk of smudging or rubbing off.

Top up gradually –

If you really want your tan to last as long as possible, top it up after a few days with gradual tan. This will keep you going until you are ready to repeat the fake tan cycle all over again.
