The “lumpy” skin appearance is most common in the thighs and butt area. There are several factors that go into why some people get it and others don’t.
While genetics, hormones, and age are certainly contributors however diet and exercise are by far the biggest factors.

While cellulite isn’t completely avoidable we can improve the appearance of it by eating a balanced diet and limiting the below foods.
- Sugar causes inflammation, storage of body fat, and even fluid retention. So if you have a sweet tooth and you’re serious about reducing your body fat – processed sugar has to go.
- Fruit can spike your blood sugar and cause you to store fat. However fruit is packed with antioxidants so you just need to understand when to eat it. All you have to do is pair your fruit with a healthy fat, like nuts or seeds, and protein. Your blood sugar will be stabilized, and your cells will use the sugars to burn fat.
- Alcohol. Ok so we’re definitely not going to be party-poopers but the truth is that alcohol just doesn’t digest the same as food. We would recommend reducing your alcohol intake greatly if you cannot cut it out completely. Some opt for lower-calorie drinks, which is good, but you still need to give your body good breaks from alcohol in order to keep your liver functioning optimally.
- Salt. This one is hard for us as we love our salty savoury snacks – however too much salt can cause water retention and dehydration, which increases inflammation and possibly even fat accumulation—all making cellulite more noticeable. Think of how ‘puffy’ you look the day after a binge or cheat day and you have eaten take-away food which contains loads of salt AND sugar.
That wraps up our top cellulite-causing foods. How many do you eat on a day to day basis?
If more than 2 we suggest a change in your eating – not for cellulite alone but these foods above are not good to be eating continuously day in and day out.
Let us know your thoughts and if you have a ‘No-No’ food item that you avoid?
