Beauty On The Go

Whether you’re traveling for work, family or a fun holiday, it can be stressful. Not only to our patience levels, but to our skin and hair too. Trying to look good while you’re traveling requires a little more effort.

So we’ve created some tips below to help your skin and hair stay in better shape, plus they should make you feel better during your travels, too!

Downsize your beauty items.  There are plenty of reasons to minimize your favorite skin care items before you travel. Fill up miniature bottles which you can find online, or some brands come in travel-size options like L’OCCITANE. See here for our sale. (Plus you one of the lucky rubies who purchase this set automatically enters a draw to win R1000 L’OCCITANE voucher!)

Water is an in-flight essential.  And the small cups they bring around during the food service are not enough. Plane air is very dry. fresh air is pumped into the cabin. However, the air at such high altitudes has very little moisture, making the cabin air dry. That is what makes your skin feel dehydrated. “I try to drink at least a liter for every six hours of flying.”

Carry on a face mist spray. Spritzing your face with water is yet another way to keep skin hydrated in the arid cabin environment. Pack Avene Thermal Spray in your bag, and seal in the moisture for added skin hydration, slather on your favorite moisturizer and freshen up periodically with a hydrating mist, like the First Aid Beauty Vitamin Hydrating Mist. This will help lock in moisture in the skin. You can never have enough moisturizer.  To combat the dry air in the plane, you’ll need to pack a face lotion, a lip balm, and an eye cream.)

Ziplock bags are your best friend. Ziplock bags are a lifesaver for organization—they are clear and take up essentially no extra space. Hair accessories, bobby pins and hair bands stay together in a ziplock bag. Double ziplock bags for spill-prone liquids to keep the rest of your belongings safe. The air pressure during plane rides can make liquids do crazy things, so put a piece of scotch tape around the seal and put the product in its own ziplock bag.

Chill Out Puffy Eyes. To reduce under-eye puffiness after a long trip put crushed ice in a washcloth and apply it under the eyes. It’s an automatic wake-up call that makes you look and feel immediately fresher.

Banish Bright Nail Polish. Skip the brightly colored nail polish when traveling. It chips too easily and leaves you looking unfinished. Rather buff and polish nails to a natural sheen for a clean, crisp look, or apply a neutral, sheer color that won’t call attention if it does chip.

Keep Your Hands Off Your Face. To minimize breakouts while you’re on vacation, avoid touching your skin while you travel. You can pick up any number of unknown bacteria while traveling. If you’re going to apply makeup while you’re in transit use an antibacterial hand wash on your hands first to further protect your skin. Try Tempo anti-bacterial pocket tissues – they are amazing!

Tame Your Tresses

To keep hair looking good without igniting a firestorm of static electricity, never underestimate the power of a great hat to hide plane hair. A big European scarf wrapped around your neck makes the whole disheveled hair look more chic. Sometimes you just have to go with it!
