Battling With ‘Bacne’?

Acne has no criteria for who it affects or where or when. Either way it’s not something pleasant to deal with and in most people it causes a lot of insecurities. (Click here to read our rubies reviews after testing Thursday plantation Acne range)

You could have acne from a young age at school or have your first outbreak as a young adult and it can be anywhere from your face, to your chest and even on your back. The location of acne is very important when it comes to removing it. If you suffer with acne on your back (more commonly known as ‘bacne’) you need to understand the cause first.

What causes pimples on the back and shoulders?

Acne on the back is very similar to that found on the face. The cause for both are build-up of dead skin cells, oil and dirt in the pore and excess oil. Hormones can also play a big part in facial acne and back acne. However the way you clear facial acne is not quite the same as the way you would clear back acne.

Facial acne is more varied with the types of pimples, for example you have small pimples, pustules and papules in different sizes and areas on the face. Body acne however tends to be larger and more swollen and painful as they are rooted more deeply in the pore lining. This makes bacne more difficult to treat than facial acne.

Which means you need a different level of treatments to treat bacne. What are these treatments and products? Take a look below at the important steps and products to incorporate into your beauty routine.

  • Treatment starts in the shower.

Make sure you have a gentle body wash and that you wash your back last especially if you are washing your hair and the residue from shampoo and conditioner could block your pores and lead to breakouts.

  • Exfoliation

Dead skin cells along with excess oil and dirt can block your pores and cause inflammation and ultimately a pimple. By removing dead skin cells you keep pores clear and less likely to block.

  • Spot Treatment

Spot treatments help active flareups. Make sure you find one that contains at least 2.5% benzoyl peroxide. If the flareup is severe you might need to chat to your dermatologist for an oral antibiotic. Remember to try not squeeze as this leads to back acne scars.

  • Professional help

There comes a time when you’ve tried all the options but the acne is not clearing. The best would be to seek medical advice from a Dr or dermatologist as they can prescribe topical treatments or oral such as Roaccutane.
