Where they're come from
In the late 70’s and early 80’s, fashion buyer Essie Weingarten was left underwhelmed by the selection of nail colours available at nail salons. A beauty and manicure enthusiast, she longed for fashionable nail polishes, but found the same uninspiring shades at each salon she visited. In 1981 she created 12 chip-resistant, unconventional colours and began selling them to salons in Las Vegas. The products were such a hit that Essie found herself with international orders only a year later, and today, the brand is sold in over 95 countries across the world.
Where they're going to
The key to Essie’s success is her philosophy that all women have two nail polish needs- there are times for elegant shades and times for fun shades (and a brand must cater for both). For Essie, nail colours are just as big a fashion accessory as handbags and shoes, and should not only be fashion-forward and exciting, but good quality too. It’s with these characteristics that the brand’s gained its worldwide following and solid reputation.
